Crisis – Perspectives from the Humanities
In 2023 the HERA Network, along with CHANSE (Collaboration of Humanities and Social Sciences in Europe), invested 15,5 M€ to support 10 projects on “Crisis – Perspectives from the Humanities”.
The call supports humanities-led, collaborative, transnational research that will result in new academic insights relevant to major social, cultural, and political challenges facing Europe and the world.
Our aim
The theme “Crisis – Perspectives from the Humanities” aims to address innovative outlooks on the phenomena of crises past and present, such as the mapping of environmental health crises, religious responses to geopolitical crises, the Crisis of Migration Discourse and coastlines as zones of ecocultural crisis. The call sub-themes include different understandings of crises, crises and the human response, and the representation of crises.
Projects
The 10 projects are supported by the Knowledge Exchange for Slow Hope (KESH) and will last 24 to 36 months. A kick-off conference will be held on 24-25 November 2025 in Nottingham, UK.
The following countries are involved in the call: Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
