HERA appoints Professor Daniel Carey as new Vice-Chair

HERA is pleased to announce the election of Professor Daniel Carey as the new Vice-Chair of the network.

“Professor Carey brings exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to the humanities, with a career that spans national and European research infrastructures, advocacy, and scholarly excellence” says Dr. Jaideep Gupte, Chair of HERA and Director of Research, Strategy and Innovation at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UKRI).

Professor Carey served as Director of the Moore Institute for Research in the Humanities and Social Studies at the University of Galway from 2014 to 2023 and has been a member of the HERA Board since 2017. He has provided long-standing intellectual leadership at the Irish Research Council as a Board Member (2017-22) and Chair (2022-24) and remains supportive of developments through Research Ireland.

As HERA continues to support innovative humanities research across Europe, Professor Carey’s expertise and vision will be vital in shaping the network’s future direction. We look forward to working closely with him in this new role.
