Before joining the University of Manchester, Deljana Iossifova was a Research Fellow on the project Scarcity and Creativity in the Built Environment (SCIBE), led by Jeremy Till at the University of Westminster, and a PhD/Postdoctoral Fellow at the United Nations University, Institute of Advanced Studies (Sustainable Urban Futures Programme) in Yokohama, Japan. Her PhD (Public Policy Design) was completed at the Tokyo Institute of Technology and dealt with coexistence, place-related identity and the experience of sociospatial transformation in Shanghai.

Deljana holds a diploma in Architecture from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and has many years of experience as a practicing architect and urban design consultant in Europe, the United States and East Asia. She has worked with various international offices and has been in charge of a number of small- and large-scale, prize-winning projects in China and Japan. Her current research focuses on sociospatial aspects of urban growth and transformation in East and South-East Asia.
