RomIdent will participate with an information stall at the Multilngual Manchester Information event, Thursday 18 Octor, 5pm, Samuel Alexander Building, University of Manchester.
Materials produced by the project will be on display and project members will answer questions from the audience.

Annual Meeting of the Gypsy Lore Society

The RomIdent Project will participate at the annual meeting of the Gypsy Lore Society, 19-23 of September 2012 in the historic district of Beyoğlu, in Istanbul, Turkey.
The project will contribute to the conference with four papers.
Daniele Viktor Leggio (University of Manchester): Being Roma on YouTube: language choice, identity representation and performance.
Yaron Matras and Hazel Gardner (University of Manchester). Attitudes of English and Welsh Gypsies towards their language and its revival.

Round table on Romani Teaching

6 September 2012, Barcelona. As part of the programme of the 10th International Conference on Romani Linguistics the project co-ordinators Prof Yaron Matras (University of Manchester), Prof Peter Bakker (Aarhus University) and Prof Dieter Halwachs (University of Graz) led a round table discussion on Romani Teaching.
Current attempt at introducing Romani in the school curriculum of various countries like Finald, Serbia and Spain were discussed as were new and old teaching materials.
The round table saw the participation of international scholars and activists as well as members of the Spanish Gitanos community, generating a lively debate on the challenges and potential advantages of Romani teaching.
Project staff member also contributed to the conference with two well received papers on new vocabulary in Romani written sources (Barbara Schrammel-Leber, University of Graz) and the usage of Romani on YouTube (Daniele Viktor Leggio, University of Manchester).
Feedback from both the round table and the presentations was discussed during the consortium meeting held immediately after the conference.
Enhancing Romani language education in schools in Europe

11-14 July 2012. Prof Dieter Halwachs (University of Graz) participated in the co-ordinators' meeting and the training seminar organized by the QualiRom project at the University of Helsinki, Finland.
Romani language in Stockholm

August 2012. An event on the Romani language was held in Stockholm. Prof Peter Bakker (Aahrus University) took part discussing Romani teaching and learning materials with participants and collecting recently published materials for the RomIdent virtual library.
Romani Studies Summer School

9-15 July, Budapest. Prof Yaron Matras (University of Manchester) lecturered at the summer school organised by the European Academic Network on Romani Studies in collaboration with the SUN program of the Central European University.
Prf Matras lectures on the status of Romani and on its standardization process were attended by 52 young scholars and policy practitioners.

26 June 2012, Paris. Prof Yaron Matras (University of Manchester) presented the RomIdent project and its preliminary results at the 3rd meeting of the scientific committe of the European Academic Network on Romani Studies.

8 June 2012, Appleby. RomIdent staff from the University of Manchester participated at the events organized at Appleby Horse Fair.
Audio-visual materials on the history of the Roma/Gypsies and interactive teaching and learning materials for Romani were presented to the public.
Members of the English Gypsy community were involved on a round table during which they offered feedback on the materials present by the RomIdent staff. Furthermore, their ideas and wishes for audio-visual supports for language learning and were discussed.
Colloquium on attitudes toward the Romani language

RomIdent information session at the Manchester History Festival

25 February 2012, Manchester. The RomIdent project co-operated with Multilingual Manchester for their exhibition at the Manchester History Festival, held at Manchester Museum.
Information on the project and on the current status of Romani codification were given as part of the installation on multilingualism in Manchester.
