New €18.5 million HERA Joint Research Programme “Cultural Encounters” Call for Proposals is now open

The HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area) Network is pleased to announce a new Joint Research Programme (JRP) on Cultural Encounters (CE). Nineteen research councils from 18 countries and the European Commission are making up to €18.5 million available. The research programme will fund new and exciting humanities-centred projects on Cultural Encounters involving researchers from three or more participating countries.

In order for researchers to find partners in other countries, a mailing list has been set up so that researchers can subscribe to receive requests for partners, and post requests themselves.

We recommend subscribing immediately if interested, but waiting a couple of days before posting your partner search in order to give all countries time to distribute this email to their networks. Please note that the posts are not moderated, so you still need to ensure fit to Cultural Encounters, eligibility etc.

Summary of the funding opportunity
Funding is available for research projects addressing the theme of Cultural Encounters that involve at least three researchers from three different eligible countries. The application process will be in two stages.
The draft timetable for applications is:
- Outline Proposals to be submitted 4 May 2012, 14:00 Central European Time/13:00 Greenwich Mean Time
- Shortlisted applicants to submit Full Proposals in October 2012.
Which Countries Are Involved?
The following countries have committed to the HERA JRP on Cultural Encounters:
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden and United Kingdom.
The European Commission is providing top-up funding via an ERANET Plus grant to the HERA JRP CE initiative.
The European Science Foundation (ESF) acts as the handling agency for the application and selection process.

Submission
Proposals must be submitted before the deadline via the online submission system at:
http://www2.esf.org/WD160AWP/WD160Awp.exe/CONNECT/HERA_JRP_Outline?id=1056You will need to enter the details of your proposal (title, project summary, duration, total budget etc.) and personal data of the applicants into the online application system. You will then be asked to upload your proposal as ONE document in PDF format. You must use the Application Template to prepare your proposal.
